Increasingly, companies are relying on “flexible” use of their plantations and see opportunities to obtain multiple and even simultaneous uses of their crops: on the one hand, carbon sinks and, on the other hand, the raw material for pulp (eucalyptus, pine, acacia), tires (rubber) or vegetable oil (oil palm). But with the obvious need to cut down the tree at some point to produce ephemeral products such as paper, tires or oil, stored carbon is quickly emitted long before new trees recover it if the company decides to replant it. To make reforestation more efficient at the “distance” of atmospheric carbon, the first step would be to make it permanent. (2) Many municipalities in the world`s southern countries are fighting the invasion of their country by large tree plantations. WRM learned a lot from them. One thing we have learned is that there can be no such plantation without substantial subsidies and/or incentives from public or private institutions. In the current scenario of economic and climate crises, plantation companies have identified a new motivation: to implement one of the most important measures resulting from the 2016 Paris Climate Agreement and on a territorial scale. That is, removing “excess” carbon from the atmosphere that causes global warming and storing it in trees. A tree planting contract is approved in the second calendar of the title under the name SMR Primary Interest in the land. If the interest of the plantation is related to a tenant`s interest in the property or property, it is designated as a subsidiary of SMR in the country.
Countless communities around the world have experienced the severe negative effects of plantations, and WRM and many other organizations have for years published reports, videos, firsts and articles on the subject. But despite these effects, plantations continue to grow and have received new international support, justified by the climate crisis. This is due to the inequitable imbalance of power in which plantation societies, with the support of states and their repressive apparatus, try to impose themselves and continue to penetrate the territories of communities to control them and turn them into plantations. Another important part of the Paris Agreement – even though it accepts monoculture tree plantations as “woodland” – is its very ambitious goal of keeping the temperature rise “well below 2oC and making efforts to limit the increase in temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius… to achieve a balance between anthropogenic emissions from springs and the reduction of greenhouse gases by wells during the second half of the century. “I`m not No stamp duty is due when creating a tree planting contract, but all subsequent transfers or other transactions are normally subject to stamp duty. Legislation provides a safe form of partial savings, especially for planted trees. Both trees can already be applied in the soil or planted. It does not apply to other vegetation such as native forests or grazing. First, plantation companies use the fact that FAO`s definition for forests includes monoculture tree plantations.
At the international level, this is a more acceptable definition – also by the Paris Agreement – and used by almost all national governments and UN initiatives, such as the UN Convention on Climate and Biodiversity. FAO considers any area where there are only trees as a forest. But plantations, unlike forests, generally enter communal areas due to their rapid growth, cause deforestation, pollute and dilute water sources, and require large quantities of toxic agrochemicals. Note: If the agreement is related to Crown Land, it should not be registered unless it is compliance with the LAA s.18.
